BMS grew out of a transition from Boston Boatworks so most of the team are experienced boat builders who have the expertise and the passion to do things right.

In this issue, we are diving into a recent houseboat refit project, advancements in marine batteries, the value in not relying solely on electronics for navigation, and more.

Advancing the state of the Art: Solid State Batteries

There have been many advances in storage batteries over the years. The latest of course was the availability of Lithium Ion batteries which are well regarded for their ability to hold more power for longer than their lead acid or glass matte predecessors. Using a paper chart to navigate on the water

The Case for Paper Charts

Many boaters think because today's electronics are so impressive that paper charts are a thing of the past.  Nothing could be farther from the truth. You never know when you could lose DC power aboard, a faulty alternator, a bad in-line fuse or in our case, a bad processor on a brand new Chartplotter. Paper charts are a small investment in the safety of your family, your vessel and you.

Securing dock lines properly

How to Tie a Cleat Properly

Nothing is more frustrating than to walk down the dock and see so many dock lines made up to cleats improperly.  Whether you are tying up a dinghy, or a large yacht, there is a right way to tie a dock line. Let us show you how (and explain why it is the right way.)

Hard Glass Enclosures on MJMs

The original design of most of the MJM's were with an open helm deck, isolated from the elements on the sides and aft end typically with a removable canvas and plastic window enclosure.

BMS has had extensive experience enclosing the sides and/or aft with real glass, including framed glass doors. The enclosure adds to the elegance and functionality of the space. Most owners find it transforms their use of the space especially when it comes to managing a climate controlled environment.

If you would like a quote to convert your MJM helm deck or have an interest in our other suite of upgrades, please contact us.
